FAQ
Q. Will I still be involved with discussions about my child?
A. We appreciate that it can be a worrying time when a child leaves a home environment and parents are not present as much as they once were. Living Ambitions acknowledges that you know your child better than anyone else so we welcome your views and opinions on all aspects of your child’s support and welfare.
Q. My child may not settle at first at night time as it is a new place. Will there be a member of staff there to reassure them?
A. All the homes have a member of staff who is awake all night in the home. In addition there is also another member of staff on site who will be sleeping-in but can be woken if the need arises. So there will be staff around to be there for the child if required.
Q. What type of activities will my child do?
A. The activities are endless! As all the children have their own allocated staff who are designated solely to them they can go out when and wherever they want and are not restricted to only being able to go out in groups. To give an example, some of the favourite activities for current children include; swimming, horse-riding, youth clubs, trampoline clubs, meals out, trips to fun fairs and parks. During the initial planning process Living Ambitions explores and identifies as much information on likes and dislikes that the children have in terms of activities and look at incorporating the ones which are liked into the child’s new life, along with the introduction of new activities.
Q. Can I place a child in one of the residential homes and not in Oliver House School?
A. Yes, of course. Some of the children in the residential homes do not attend Oliver House School. They have continued to attend the school that they were already at.
