Pupil Referral Process
If there are places available new pupils can begin Oliver House School at any time during the academic year. The initial contact is usually made through Social Services, Health Departments or Local Education Authorities but it is not uncommon for families to make the first contact via the Headteacher and visit the school to see if it is suitable for their child/young person.
We welcome families and their children to visit Oliver House School at any time, meet the staff and look around the building to get a feel for our ethos and autistic friendly approach. We understand that this is an important decision that requires discussion and research and we are very happy to answer all your questions at a pace that suits your particular family.
If it is agreed that we could support your child we will arrange an initial informal assessment to begin the planning process. Following written confirmation of agreement of funding arrangements of a placement, the detailed planning process can begin which may involve all the people within the child’s life, these being both personal and professional. All planning processes at our school are person centred and individualised according to circumstance and need.
An informal assessment observation will form one of the first parts of the planning process and this helps us write an individual service design for your child to illustrate exactly what we will provide for them.
As part of the transition process we will use person centred planning to ease the pupil into their new school. We can send photographs of their new classroom, staff, teacher and activities if this helps the child. We can arrange flexible visits for the pupil to gain confidence if this helps their transition.
